Korean students are stressed about the school tests. In Korea, stress about studying can kill students. Tests sometimes can mean everything to Korean students. Their job is related to which university they attended, and their university depends on their high school score or which high school they attended, and that depends on their middle school score. That means their lives will depend on their score, starting when they are 14 years old in Korea.
Korean students are given crammed education. After school, they go to academies for all kinds of subjects. For example, there are English, math, Korean, science, and even writing academies. These academies could help students on the tests, so their parents send them to a lot of academies. So this means there would be a lot of extra work. This is one of the reasons why Korean students have so much stress. Han Su Gyeong, who goes to Gwangyo Girls' Middle School in Korea, says, "I don't care about the studying much, but I can't stop studying because my academy teacher makes me study."
Korean students' stress might be their problem, but it is Korean society's fault, too. Tests are giving students a lot of stress, but the reason why those tests are becoming more and more important is that of Korea's society. The "test chain" makes students in Korea more stressed about tests. And now, students are thinking of leaving their country because they don't want their children to live under the test stress and they are so stressed about it themselves.
