▲ Students` Presentation (Life Science Project)

The importance of learning emerges gradually, and also self-directed learning is getting more important. There is a project that involves self-directed learning in Janggeom Middle School. It is Life Science Project. Its purpose is to fully understand life science. It is so difficult to understand, so many students just memorize this topic, and they do not understand it. To improve this, students study by themselves so that they can understand it easily. Life Science Project is a long-term project in science class that requires students to make home-school materials, make the presentation, and report and teach it to other students. This project is done in a combined class of males and females. Five to six students make a group in random and choose a topic to report. After doing this, they make home-school materials that have the summary of the main points. Based on such, they make the presentation to report their topic. Then, they report this presentation and teach the others. When the project is completed, students will evaluate other groups' project.


The participating students can understand more easily after this project. However, they agonize constantly on how they can impress their topic to the other students. Because of this project, students can learn how to do self-direction learning and understand the topic. Ms. Lee in Janggeom Middle School said, that when she does this project, she searches lots of information about her topic to impress others. Though that, she is able to understand her topic perfectly. Before she does this project, she did not her topic understand and just memorized it. So this project is so good to self-directed learning.


Janggeom Middle School's project for self-directed learning is successful. After doing this project, students get many correct answers while they get more wrong answers when they just memorize.

Self-directed learning project will be more growing now and forever. Like Janggeom Middle School's project, other schools must do self-directed learning projects now. In the future, many will desire to develop this project.
