Leukemia
The First Case of Succession Curing the Human with Leukemia
Leukemia is a group of cancers that usually begins in bone marrow. As a result, there will be high numbers of abnormal white blood cells. These abnormal white blood cells are not fully grown and are called blasts or leukemia cells. Before this happens, the symptoms of leukemia are fever, bone pain, easy bleeding, and losing weight without trying. These symptoms happen because of the lack of normal blood cells.
In 2007, a worker who works in Samsung Electronics died from leukemia. An organization founded by Hwang Sang-ki after his son died from leukemia, SHARPS, assumes that around 200 employees are contracted leukemia while working and about 70 are killed. Samsung denied these facts until 2018. In 2018, Samsung officially apologized to the workers. They agreed to give the maximum value of 150 million Korean won until October 31st, 2028. Previously at that time, it was believed that there was no cure for leukemia.
For the first time in the history, Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and University College London (UCL) researchers used immune cell anticancer treatment (UCART19) to a one-year-old girl with leukemia. They saw the good effects on the treatment. UCART19 is a cell medicine that is only ordered to kill blood cancers. It is made up with immune cells that are donated and used genetic manipulations. This is the first time that this cure is used for a human body. An immunologist from GOSH child health institute, Waseem Qasim said that this is the first case of succession curing the human with leukemia. He said that he is going to do more experiments until it is safe.
