Korean football team's captain Ki Sung Yueng will retire from Korean national football team. According to the Korean Football Association, Ki will retire from the Korean national football team. He decided to retire when South Korea was eliminated in the 2018 Russia Would Cup. However, with Bento's dissuasion, Ki decided to remain in the football team until the Asian Cup.

Ki received a Cha Bum-kun football award in 2001 who was the best forward in Bundesliga. He went to Australia to study abroad for four years. After graduating high school, he joined to the FC Seoul. He had debuted at football on March 4th, 2007. Also, he participated in 20 matches at that season. In 2008, the first scored a goal with Daegu FC, and he played a good role in the team with his best friend Lee Chung-yong. In 2009 winter, he transferred to the Celtic FC in Scotland. In his first season at Celtic, he did not do well. However, in the next season, he scored a goal and did very well. Also, in the next season, he did well, too. On August 21st, 2012, Ki transferred to Swansea City. In the 2012-2013 season, he successfully made debut at EPL and contributed to team's Football League Cup victory. In the 2013-2014 season, because of increasing midfielders and discord with football manager, he made a loan with Sunderland for a year. After a season, he came back to the team, and he did well at the team until the 2017-2018 season. Moreover, this season, he transferred to Newcastle United FC. At first, he did not do well, but he soon became a core player in the team.


Ki was a core player in the national football team, too. He participated in 2007 U-20 World Cup, 2008 Beijing Olympic and 2010 South African World Cup. He did a good job in the 2011 Asian Cup. Also, he played a wonderful job in the 2012 London Olympics. He participated in 2014 Brazil World Cup, 2015 Asian Cup, 2018 Russia World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup. He did a good job whenever he participated in the match.


Ki did a good job as a key player in the national football team. His ball keeping and long pass ability was at the top class. He also had a wide view and could use space well. In other words, he could control the match tempo by himself. He was the best midfielder in South Korea and will be remembered in football fans' heart forever.
