However, they won two matches, and they lost one in three matches and advanced to the 16th round by finishing second in the group. In the 16th round, they played a match against Japan. The game ended with the score of 3:3, so the game went into a penalty shoot-out. Eventually, they won Senegal by the scored of 3 against 2. At the match of semifinals, they played a game against Ecuador. At the middle of the game, Choi-Joon scored a goal by receiving the pass of Lee Kang-in, a key player of South Korea. By scoring this goal, the Korean team went into the final match against Ukraine. In the match, the Korean national team scored a goal first by kicking penalty-kick, but they lost the match by conceding three goals. Therefore, they finished second in the tournament.

After the tournament, a key player of South Korea, Lee Kang-in, won the Golden Ball, which would be given to the best player of the tournament. He said that he did not regret the results. His team got good results by becoming one team. He was satisfied with those results. All of the people of South Korea were excited at the results they made.
