In South Korea, if you were an aggressive girl when you were young, you may hear the word "Gangster's wife." As a girl, you may have some issues with gender roles. Moreover, aside from this, you may be skeptical about your gender and sexuality.
What I was meant to say is there are many kinds of people. Some perceive themselves as women, but they want to pursue masculinity or break the walls of gender. Moreover, in some cases, although they are legally women, their identity does not match that. There is a word that is related to them. The word is "Tomboy." It means a teenage girl who is with an active and have masculine aspect. For example, American singer Amber is a singer from a Korean girl group with an androgynous characteristic.
This May 22, the movie, whose name is "Tomboy," is released. It is the story of a 10-year-old girl who is confused about her gender identity. A girl named Laure introduces herself as a boy, Mickäel. He likes to have a short-cut hair and plays with boys. He also likes a girl named Lisa. He often wants to be recognized as a boy, such as making a penis out of clay before going swimming with his friends. Therefore, many people who are in the Korean LGBTQ+ community consider this movie as a trans boy's story. However, the film director said she made the film for many people could relate to it. Anyway, the point is it is important to admit our preference and love as it is.
As the feminine story is rising in South Korea, also the queer story is being shown to more people. Though the situation is not good to go to the theater, more and more people in South Korea are saying that it is positive that more works deal with the stories of the underprivileged.
