South Korea on a national scale has been damaged from heavy rain. It started on August 1, and it has been raining for over a week a lot. Many people, houses, and facilities have been suffered from heavy rain.
In Goksung, three people died because of landslide due to heavy rain. The residents in Goksung said that they had heard sounds like a thud. The rescue operations had been stopped just before midnight due to the danger of further landslides as torrential rain continued. Also, Nami Island and Jara Island sank under the water. Furthermore, the train service stopped in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do Province. Not only these happened but also many accidents have arisen a lot. A total of 8,243 houses and private and public facilities have been destroyed since August 1. In addition, there were twenty people died and twelve missing people according to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.
President Moon Jae-in declared Anseong in Gyeonggi, and some areas to receive other necessary supports. The government said that they would give relief payout to the people who have been suffered from the damages because of the heavy rain and designate special disaster areas. The residents in the special disaster areas will be supported financially in order to live their life. Also, the government said that they will improve the health system to help all of the injured people. The government gave a special tax grant of seven billion won to Gyeonggi Province and other provinces.
A disaster can occur at any time and anywhere. Therefore, people should be prepared on how to react when a disaster happens. With everyone's effort and help, people can overcome a disaster with no massive damage.
