Nowadays, digital technology is increasing and becomes the most important industry on Earth. However, not only digital technology has been developed but also crimes that occurred in cyberspace has been increased. Therefore, careers in cybersecurity receive attention. Among them, a digital forensic expert has the most important role in solving computer-oriented crimes.
Cybercrime is quite common. We can watch the news about it easily. Also, some people became victims of this crime. Moreover, a great number of cybercrime occurrences have increased every year. Because of these reasons, a digital forensic expert plays an important role. A digital forensic expert's main role is recovering, interpreting, and turning data from digital devices or from the Internet into evidence to help in solving crimes. So, he usually works in a police agency, prosecutor's office, NIS, law firm, and accounting
firm. To become one, you must have knowledge about information technology, such as computer systems, hardware, operating system, and information security. Thus, entering the computer engineering department or information security department will be a great help. There are no special qualifications to be a digital forensic expert; however, applying at Korean Forensic Association will also be helpful. The Nth-room case was an example of a case in which forensic experts played an active role.
An interview about the prospect of digital forensic with Cho Byung-Chul, who is a member of the Korean Forensic Association said that as society becomes more informative, and life depends on digital devices, therefore the incidence of cybercrimes is increasing exponentially. The digital forensic market will be widened if the authorized detective system is introduced.
Digital technology is part of our life. We must use it legally and carefully. Hence, we should be responsible for using it.
