Do you know the place where we cannot go to in Korea?
You will think that it is the demilitarized zone or a place designated as a cultural heritage. However, we have areas aside from them that are not allowed to enter.
One place is the mountain called Bukak Mountain.
Bukak mountain was originally the castle of Seoul in the Joseon dynasty. The first king of Joseon, Yi Seong-gye, made the wall to protect the people from the enemies, attack and the big door called Chang-ui Door. The wall and door still exist nowadays. The mountain that protected Seoul became a place of terror for North's special forces.
On the night of January 21, 1968, North Korea's special forces became terrorists trying to kill our president, Park Chung-hee. We called this accident on January 21 or Kim Sin Jo's terror. Fortunately, this raid failed, but for safety reasons, Park Chung hee's government decided to contain the mountain.
Fifty-two years after the mountain was blocked, the government canceled the containment order. This policy is the pledge of our president. On the day the mountain was opened after 52 years, the president and his first lady climbed the mountain to check the route of it. Our government opened it in 2020 November and will fully open Bukak Mountain to the public in 2022.
Bukak mountain, which has many historical stories, will be a good place to a trip with the family. Bukak Mountain has a beautiful scene such as fallen leaves, and the wall of Joseon. According to the president, this opening is meaningful as it is a way of connecting Mt. Bukak and Mt. Bukhan, the past, and the future. People will soon celebrate the past and future's connecting.
