In November 28th, Korean scientists launched a single-stage rocket made of 75-ton engine, and it had gone up to 209 kilometers. It was reported that the test-launch vehicle is 26 meters long, and it will be burnt for 151 seconds, which preceded the original goal that the test-launch vehicle had been burnt for 140 seconds. Someone might think that it was not that important news. However, most people believe that the success of launching the test-vehicle is worth regarding as the most important news in 2018 in South Korea.
Before this success, South Korea had difficulty in developing space industry. Korean space industry was lacked than a lot of countries such as China, Russia, and the United States. For example, although Russia invented the first satellite called 'Sputnik' in 1957, and the U.S. made their own satellite called 'Explorer' in 1958, the first Korean satellite was invented in 1990,s. Also, despite launching their first projectile called 'Naro' in 2013, the engine of Naro was made by Russia because of their lack of technology.
However, after the development of Naro, Korean scientists began to make their own liquid engine. They had made the first liquid engine using a test-launch vehicle in 2002, and they had made it for 16 years. Eventually, 720 liquid engines were made and assembled. So, they can make their own test-launch vehicle using 720 liquid engines, and succeeded in the experiment on November 28th. The success of this experiment means that they can proceed with the project of making their own projectile until 2021 and will be able to invent their own projectile in 2021.
The public in South Korea largely suggests that South Korea should invest more in the space industry, and praises the success of launching a test-launch vehicle. South Korea had not been interested in developing space industry than the other science-related fields such as Chemistry, and IT. However, after this successful experiment, many people hope them to give more interest in the space industry, and expect South Korea to be strong at the space industry.
