The new head coach, Jose Morais, is 53 years old veteran. He served as an assistant coach under a well-known head coach, Jose Mourinho in Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea. There, Morais and Mourinho accomplished European treble in Inter Milan in the 2009-2010 season. In that season, Inter Milan won Serie A title, Italian Cup title, and UEFA Champions League title.
After the assistant work, Jose Morais managed six different clubs in Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Greece, England and Ukraine. He recently managed a Ukraine club, Carpati Riviu. His first managing experience was at Benfica reserve team, from 1999 to 2001. He will be the first foreign head coach in Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. After he comes, the current assistant in Jeonbuk, Kim Sang-sik, will remain in Jeonbuk. The new boss is expected to bring in some of his own coaches to the staff later.
Choi Kang Hee will leave for the Chinese club, Tianjin Quanjian, next season. Choi has been with Jeonbuk since 2004, with a short break from 2011 to 2013 to coach the national team. With Choi, Jeonbuk won six league titles and two Asian Football Confederation Champions League titles.
On the interview, Jeonbuk said that Jose Morais' experiences in European soccer will make him the perfect coach for the club's philosophy. The club's general manager, Baek Seung-kwon, added that Morais is a right coach who can take Jeonbuk to greater success. Baek also said that his strategic mind and experiences in Europe will inspire and motivate the players.
Morais said on the interview that he knows about Jeonbuk's reputation. He is happy to have a new challenge at the best team in Asia, and he would like to meet his players as soon as possible. He will do his best and show his tactical ability with his experiences in Europe.
