The Nobel Prizes are awarded to people and organizations that have contributed to the welfare of mankind under the will of Alfred Nobel of Sweden. Nobel Prizes are divided into six categories: literature, chemistry, physics, physiology or medicine, peace, and economics. The 118th Nobel Peace Prize's schedule of an announcement was on October 1, 2018, to October 8, 2018, and the awarding ceremony was on December 10, 2018. This is held every year in Oslo City Hall, Norway.
The winner receives a medal, a diploma and a cash prize certificate from the chairman of the Norwegian king. The medal consists of 18 carat gold. This diameter is 66 mm, and the weight is 175 g. The medal was made by famous sculptor of Norway, Gustav Vigeland. In the medal's heads, Nobel's portrait and name, his birth, and death year are carved in Latin. In medal's tails, Pro pace et fraternitate gentium and three people's figure are carved. The prize is an artistic design on one side, and records of awards' nominations have been handwritten by a renowned calligrapher, Inger Magnus, since 1992. Unlike other Nobel Prize winners, there is no reason for the Nobel Peace Prize to be listed.
The 18th Nobel Peace Prize winners are Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad. Mukwege who was awarded Nobel Peace Prize said that what he saw during the armed conflict is that women's bodies are becoming war zones. Also, he said that we need to act on this problem.
If there is more than one winner, the total amount will be divided by the number of persons. The amount of prize money varies from year to year as the profits from investment by the Nobel Foundation are distributed every year. The prize money for the year without a winner will go to the next year, and if there are no winners, it will be deposited as a special fund for the Nobel Foundation.
