Animal cloning means replicating animals. To clone animals, people put somatic cells of an animal to replicate into eggs without a nucleus, and let it grow in the body of female animals. Then, an animal with the same gene is made in this way. Cloning animals are made to make sniffer dogs and detective dogs. It is because we can save money when we clone animals with ability than giving them training. Cloning animals have advantages in developing science, but there are disadvantages in ethical manners.
Animal cloning started by Ian Wilmut. Ian Wilmut succeeded in mammal cloning, and he made a cloned lamb, Dolly. Later, in 1999, people made a cloned cow, whose name is Young-long, in South Korea. People started cloning animals for research. Cloned animals were used for research to cure human diseases, and used to make sniffer dogs or detective dogs. It also used to increase the population of animals which are endangered.
However, there are many disadvantages to cloning animals. Cloned animals showed abnormal behavior, and some had a disease. They also died early. Moreover, there are problems in the ways to clone animals. An informant in Seoul University said that many animals are used for the experiment, and they are the subject of experiment for cloning. However, management of animals is not there. A number of animals are used in a laboratory to clone animals. Like these, there are many disadvantages to cloning animals in ethical manners.
There are advantages and disadvantages in cloning animals. Animals help us develop science, but it needs to sacrifice many animals for the cloning process. Moreover, it has side effects on the cloned animals. It is because they die early and have diseases. Therefore, we need to be concerned about cloning.
